PHITSANULOK, THAILAND. Around twenty secondary schools gathered at the newly inaugurated King Naresuan Hall of Phitsanulok Pittayakom School in Phitsanulok, Thailand on Friday, August 21 for the annual ASEAN Day celebration.

Now on its 5th year being the ASEAN Educational Center; Sister School in Area 39, Phitsanulok Pittayakom School is tasked to organize, manage, and carry out learning and teaching plans and activities about ASEAN studies.

The ASEAN Quiz remained to be the highlight of the three different competitions in this year's commemoration of ASEAN day that aimed to promote knowledge and awareness about ASEAN and the ten member states.

Meanwhile, the second season of the ASEAN Voice and the first Dramatic Monologue contests were designed to enhance the English oral skills of the students in response to the center's mission of promoting English as the ASEAN regional language.

Ajarn Reudee Anchamaporn, the ASEAN Coordinator said the number of attendees this year is outstanding.  "We are happy about the positive response of the different schools in our invitation. We have participants from smaller schools at the outskirts of the city, and they performed very well," she added.

Ajarn Wanida Wongchanchan, the ASEAN adviser and consultant, is also delighted about the success of the three major events. "I'm glad to have the Filipino teachers who came as our judges," she said.

Every year, the number of Filipino coaches also increases. It is no wonder that the annual ASEAN Day in Phitsanulok Pittayakom School becomes a mini-reunion of the Filipino teachers in the city. In the host school alone, there are seven Filipinos teaching various subjects in its English Program.

Janokrong School, one of the biggest schools in the city, has three Filipino teachers actively training students in the annual event.

Bangrakamwittayasuksa School, a secondary school, located about 12 kilometers away from the city, has been a consistent winner with two Filipino teachers training its students.

This year's grand champion in the ASEAN Quiz for the Junior High School Level, Prachasongkrowittaya School, is under the tutelage of a newly-hired Filipino teacher.

For two years now, the distinguished judges of the ASEAN Voice were the recognized 'Pinoy' voices in the community who are also at the same time teaching in top universities around the city.
