BANGKOK, THAILAND. The Ministry of Education is establishing a center to develop Thailand as the education hub of ASEAN, the Deputy Government Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Sansern Kaeokamnerd announced on Sunday.
Aimed to be the source of information and knowledge exchanges for researching and publicizing the existence of ASEAN, the center will also spearhead activities and events related to the association and administer its policies at the local level.
Maj. Gen. Kaeokamnerd told Chiangrai Times that the goal of the ministry's development of Thailand as the ASEAN education hub was to internationalize education in the junior-high and high school levels. He added that these schools must be prepared to provide training for both Thai and foreign students in ASEAN.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has given his go signal for the establishment of the center as it was in line with the government's national reforms and preparations for the AEC.
