CHIANG MAI, THAILAND. A 44 year-old male tourist has died after falling to his death while zip-lining in Chiang Mai last week, June 29.
The name of the tourist was withheld but police confirmed that the zip line fatal accident victim was a Chinese.
A police privately revealed to Khaosod that the news was not disclosed to the media until this week because local authorities did not want any 'negative news' to surface during that time because Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was in the city.
It was reported that the tourist was zip-lining above the forest with Skyline Adventure when a safety lock malfunctioned that caused him to fall 12 meters down to the ground.
Police said the management of Skykline Adventure has been charged with reckless action leading to deaths of others while investigation of the incident continues.
Apparently, this was not the first time that a similar accident occurred. In June, a Kuwaiti tourist plummeted to his death while bungee jumping in Phuket due to malfunctioning safety equipment.
