No Tour Guide Needed. Thai tourists from the North enjoying
the beachy Southern part of Thailand.
In response to the numerous complaints about the illegal tourist guides in Thailand, the government has resolved that all local tour guides will be required to wear school uniforms starting October 1, 2015.

Wanasiri Morakul, acting director-general of the Department of Tourism told Bangkok Post that the new regulation under the Tour Guide and Business Act would guarantee that authorities could immediately check if guides leading clients at tourist destinations were legal or not.

She also confirmed that no foreigners will be given official licenses as accredited tourist guides in the country but merely as tour coordinators.

Bangkok Post reported that the guides are given until December to acquire the uniforms which are available in both short and long sleeves and in Western and Thai styles.

Guides who will fail to comply with this new mandate while on duty will be fined 10,000 baht.
