PHITSANULOK, THAILAND. In addition to the list of requirements, a Certificate of Graduation is now also needed by those who seek to secure a 5-year teaching license in Thailand

The advisory released by the Teachers Council of Thailand last October stated that 'the letter from the university/college shall be an officially headed paper that clearly confirms the applicant's completion of the course including the dates of attendance and graduation.' 

It was further stipulated that the letter of confirmation must bear an original university/college's stamp and must be sent to the Teachers' Council of Thailand at Registration and Licensing Bureua, 128.1 Nakhon Ratchasima Road, Dusit, Bangkok, 10300 Thailand. This letter will be considered invalid if the envelope is opened prior to the receipt. 

In the case of Anuban Phitsanulok School Filipino teachers, their application of 5-year Teaching License has just been approved after having been denied twice by the council (Note: They submitted the same requirements as listed in the post above.). With the approval of the documents, they were also told that the license will be released after 2 months and they have 6 months to send the Certificate of Graduation to the Teachers' Council otherwise, the license will be nullified. 

Here's the updated list of requirements for 5-year Teaching License in Thailand:


1. Be at least 20 years of age.

2. Hold a degree in Education or an equivalent or in other related fields accredited by the Teachers' Council of Thailand or

* Hold other degrees and a teaching license from abroad or

* Hold other degrees and a graduate diploma in Education with 1 year course of study

3. Hold a Completion Certificate of training course on Thai Language, Culture and Professional Ethics from a training institution approved by the Teachers' Council of Thailand.

4. No criminal records and not possessing any of the prohibited characteristics pursuant to section 44 of the Teachers and Educational Personnel Council Act of B.E. 2003.
*Having improper behavior or immorality
*Being an incompetent or quasi-incompetent person
*Having been been sentenced to imprisonment in any case, in the opinion of the Teachers' Council of Thailand, which may bring dishonor upon the profession.

5. Have teaching experience of at least 1 year.

Required Documents:

1. Completed Application Form (KS 01)

2. A copy of all the used pages of the applicant's passport, particularly the latest update of current school NON-B Visa.

3. A copy of all the pages of work permit.

4. A copy of educational background or certificates - holding at least a bachelor's degree in a field of education/teaching or its equivalent. Note: (If the documents are in a foreign language besides English, it must be translated into Thai. Translation must be certified by a competent translator and notarized by notary organizations.)

5. A copy of official Transcripts of Records (TOR), if any.

6. A copy of teaching license/certificate from abroad (if any).

7. Work experience verification (a letter from employer in Thailand or overseas with not less than 1 year, clearly identify the period of teaching).

8. A copy of certificate, having completed the training course on Thai Language, Culture and Professional Ethics from a training institution approved by the Teachers' Council of Thailand

9. A copy of certification of Professional Knowledge Test - 9 subject matters for teaching profession (In case applicants hold other degrees without a teaching license from abroad or a graduate diploma in Education.)

10.  A copy of employment contract.

11. Two 1 x 1 photos, wearing formal clothing. No wearing of hat and sunglasses.

12. Registration fee is 500 baht.

13. *(New Requirement) An original official degree confirmation letter for graduates of The letter from the university/college shall be an officially headed paper of the college/university and clearly confirms that you have successfully completed your course, including the classification you receive, the dates of attendance and graduation. This letter must bear an original university/college seal or stamp and signature of the Registrar sent in a sealed envelope with the university/college's stamp. Void if the envelope is opened prior to receipt. Note: The confirmation letter must be sent to the Teachers' Council of Thailand at Registration and Licensing Bureau, 128/1 Nakhon Ratchasima Road, Dusit, Bangkok, 10300 Thailand.

Important Reminders:

1. All copies of the documents must be certified true by the applicants. 

2. Applicants must provide evidence of checking their educational institutional whether recognized by either the Teachers' Council of Thailand or the Teacher Civil Service and Educational Personnel Commission or the Civil Service Commission or shown in the list at the World ALMANAC or recognized by accrediting organizations that pay a role in higher education accreditation which are recognized by the appropriate governmental authorities in their countries.
