ESPERANZA, AGUSAN DEL SUR. The Municipality of Esperanza of Agusan del Sur Province is on top of the heap after being named as the Outstanding Municipality in the 2nd National Search for Quality Corn Achievers Awards.

Also in the roster of winners from the Municipality of Esperanza is Jose Zaldy S. Manug, Outstanding Municipal Agriculturist; Jovie R. Ego-ugan, Outstanding Municipal Corn Coordinator; and Ismael S. Saguran, Outstanding Agricultural Extension Worker. 

Composed of 47 barangays, Esperanza is a first class municipality of the province of Agusan del Sur with a population of 51,897 people (according to the 2010 national census) and is under the administration of the Municipal Mayor Deo Manpatilan, Jr.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 13 (Caraga Region) also got the accolade for Outstanding Regional Corn Team.

As a prize, Outstanding Province will receive 3M worth of projects; Outstanding Municipality will take home 1M worth of projects while individual winners will be given cash prizes, including trophies and certificates. 

These winners will be awarded on November 20, 2014 during the 10th Philippine National Corn Congress which runs from November 17-21, 2014 at Cagayan de Oro City.
